Jason Goodwin estudió historia bizantina en la Universidad de Cambridge. Es autor de On foot to the Golden Horn: A Walk to Istanbul (1993), Los señores del horizonte: una historia del Imperio otomano (1998) y Greenback: The Almighty Dollar and the Invention of America (2003), entre otros libros de historia y de viajes. El Árbol de los Jenízaros (Seix Barral, 2007), primera entrega de la serie de novelas protagonizadas por el insólito detective eunuco Yashim Togalu, consiguió el reconocimiento de la crítica y el público internacional, y fue galardonada con el Edgar Award a la mejor novela. Con la segunda entrega, La serpiente de piedra (Seix Barral, 2008), nominada al Macavity Award a la mejor novela, sus seguidores han continuado creciendo en todo el mundo.
