Lois Lowry nació en Hawái (Estados Unidos) en 1937. Sus primeros trabajos fueron de fotógrafa y periodista, hasta que se animó a escribir literatura infantil en la década de los setenta. Desde entonces ha escrito más de treinta títulos, ha recibido el premio Newbery en dos ocasiones y también ha sido finalista del prestigioso premio Hans Christian Andersen. Su novela < i > El dador < /i > es un clásico internacional. Actualmente vive en Cambridge.
