Åsa Larsson va néixer a Kiruna l'any 1966; actualment viu a Mariefred. Va estudiar dret a Uppsala i, igual que el seu personatge Rebecka Martinsson, durant un temps va exercir d'advocada. L'any 2003 va publicar Aurora boreal (Columna, 2009), amb la qual va guanyar el Premi de l'Associació d'Escriptors Suecs de Novel·la Negra a la Millor Primera Novel·la i que s'ha portat al cinema. És autora també de Sang vessada (2010) i El camí fosc (2011), les dues publicades a Columna. Els seus llibres han estat un èxit immediat: han obtingut l'elogi de la crítica i han estat publicats a setze països.
