Francis Scott Fitzgerald es uno de los escritores estadounidenses más importantes del siglo pasado y uno de los más destacados representantes de la llamada "Generación perdida" junto a Faulkner y Hemingway, entre otros. Nació en Minnesota, en 1896, en el seno de una familia católica irlandesa. Junto a su mujer, Zelda, vivió intensamente, tanto en Estados Unidos como en Francia, aquellos locos años veinte de animadas fiestas, alcohol, sexo y jazz que impregnarán su obra. Su primer éxito literario se produjo en 1920 con la edición de "A este lado del paraíso". Cinco años después publicó "El gran Gatsby" que con los años se convirtió en un clásico de la literatura norteamericana. Posteriormente vendrían otras dos de sus grandes obras, "Suave es la noche" y "Hermosos y malditos". Los últimos años de su vida los pasó en Hollywood, donde murió en 1940.
