William Carlos Williams (Rutherford, New Jersey, 1883-1963) fue médico de cabecera y pediatra, ocupaciones que compaginó con la escritura. Fue principalmente poeta, pero escribió novelas, relatos, teatro, ensayos, reseñas críticas y realizó traducciones al español. Asociado con el modernismo americano, destaco su intento de inventar una nueva poesía netamente americana y centrada en lo cotidiano y la gente común. Su influencia en la generación Beat de los años 1950 es obvia y reconocida por sus integrantes.
