Marshall McLuhan (1911 ?1980) fue un educador, filósofo y estudioso canadiense. Profesor de literatura inglesa, crítica literaria y teoría de la comunicación, McLuhan es reverenciado como uno de los fundadores de los estudios sobre los medios, y ha pasado a la posteridad como uno de los grandes visionarios de la presente y futura sociedad de la información. Durante el final de los años 60 y principios de los 70, McLuhan acuñó el término aldea global para describir la interconexión humana a escala global generada por los medios electrónicos de comunicación.
