Henry Rider Haggard nació en Bradenham (Reino Unido) en 1856. Su pronta vocación lectora se vio enriquecida con el estudio de autores griegos y latinos a los que imitaría en su adolescencia. Consiguió un gran éxito con sus obras, y obtuvo el título de sir. En 1888 viajó a Egipto, lo que le sugirió su novela < i > Cleopatra < /i > . La segunda parte de < i > Ella < /i > , < i > Ayesha < /i > , nombre de la protagonista, fue publicada en 1905. Falleció en Londres en 1925.
