SAVAGE, SAM
This is a novel told through the voice of a rat. Firmin is born in the basement of a ramshackle old bookstore but because he is the runt of the litter, he is forced to compete for food and ends up chewing on the books that surround him. Firmin soon realizes his source of nourishment has endowed him with the ability to read and this discovery fills him with an insatiable hunger for literature and a very unratlike sense of the world and his place in it. But the days of the bookshop and of the close community around it are numbered.
Nacido en Carolina del Sur y hoy residenteen Madison, Wisconsin, obtuvo el doctorado en Filosofía por la Universidad de Yale, donde fue profesor. También ha sido mecánico de bicicletas, carpintero, pescador y tipógrafo. Su primera novela, Firmin (Seix Barral, 2007), fue publicada por una pequeña editorial de Minneapolis, fuera de los grandes circuitos editoriales. Redescubierta por Seix Barral, ha ido creciendo gracias a la recomendaciónde lectores y libreros hasta convertirse en un fenómeno internacional. Es autor también dela novela El lamento del perezoso (Seix Barral,2009). Su obra ha sido publicada por las editoriales más prestigiosas del mundo y lleva más de un millón de ejemplares vendidos.
