“El Libro de la Selva” es una colección de relatos cortos de la pluma del escritor inglés Rudyard Kipling (1865 – 1936). El autor usa la fábula como recurso literario y crea historias de animales que hablan para dar lecciones morales. Los relatos fueron escritos cuando Kipling vivía en Vermont, Estados Unidos, como un regalo a su pequeña hija Josephine e inspirado en su India natal, en las leyendas oídas en su infancia y por la abundante fauna y flora de los paisajes en los que creció.

El novelista y poeta británico Rudyard Kipling nació en Bombay en 1865. Estudió en el Reino Unido y volvió a la India para trabajar como periodista y editor. Su obra gira alrededor del patriotismo, el espíritu victoriano y la defensa de la causa británica en su empeño de convertirse en un gran imperio. Kim o El libro de la Selva son otros de los títulos que le dieron éxito y popularidad. Ganó el Premio Nobel en 1907. Murió en Londres en 1936.
