Evelyn Waugh nació en Londres en

1903 y murió en Somerset en 1966. Hijo de un conocido editor y crítico

literario, estudió en Oxford y se graduó en historia moderna. Su primera obra,

publicada en 1928, le dio fama inmediata, y fue autor de novelas, relatos de

viajes y biografías. Se convirtió al catolicismo en medio de grandes controversias,

viajó por todo el mundo

y luchó en diversos escenarios de la segunda guerra mundial. Tras el conflicto,

publicó Retorno a Brideshead, una de las 100 mejores

novelas de todos los tiempos, según la revista Time.
