Claire Keegan nació en 1968 en County Wicklow, Irlanda, en el seno de una familia católica. A los diecisiete años abandonó la granja paterna y se instaló en Nueva Orleáns, Estados Unidos, donde estudió inglés y ciencias políticas en la Universidad Loyola. En 1992 regresó a su país natal por un breve período y realizó una maestría en escritura creativa en la Universidad de Gales, Cardiff.

Su primera colección de cuentos, Antártida (Eterna Cadencia, 2009) , fue nombrada ?Libro del año? por Los Angeles Times y premiada con el William Trevor Prize y el Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. Recorre los campos azules ganó el Edge Hill Prize al mejor libro de cuentos publicado en las Islas Británicas en 2007. Algunos de sus relatos recibieron el Olive Cook Award, el Kilkenny Prize y el Tom Gallon Award, entre otras distinciones.
En la actualidad divide su tiempo entre la ciudad de Filadelfia, Estados Unidos, y County Wexford, Irlanda.
