George Pelecanos nace en Washington en 1957. Antes de publicar su primera novela, en 1992, trabaja como cocinero, fregaplatos, camarero y vendedor de zapatos de señora. Es autor de quince novelas negras situadas en su ciudad natal, de las que Ediciones B ha publicado ?Música de callejón?, ?Revolución en las calles?, ?Drama City? y ?El jardinero nocturno?. Ha recibido el premio Raymond Chandler en Italia, el premio Falcon en Japón y el Grand Prix Du Roman Noir en Francia. ?Ojo por ojo? y ?Música de callejón? recibieron, en 2003 y 2004 respectivamente, el Los Angeles Times Book Prize. La ficción corta de Pelecanos ha aparecido en la revista Esquire, que lo ha definido como ?el poeta laureado del mundo del crimen de Washington D. C.?. Sus colaboraciones en el ámbito del cine y la pequeña pantalla también son notables: ha producido, escrito y editado la aclamada serie dramática ?The Wire? (ganadora de los premios Peabody y AFI Award), lo que le ha valido una nominación a los Emmy. La adaptación al cine de su novela ?Mejor que bien? será dirigida por Curtis Hanson (?LA Confidential?, ?Wonder Boys?). Pelecanos vive en Silver Spring, Maryland.
