James Dashner nació en Georgia en 1972. Licenciado por la Brigham Young University, en 2003 publicó su primer libro, A Door in the Woods, seguido de A Gift of Ice (2004), The Tower of Air (2004) y War of the Black Curtain (2005). Entre 2008 y 2010 publicó su trilogía The 13th Reality. El corredor del laberinto (2009; Nocturna, 2010) es la primera parte de una trilogía homónima seguida de Las pruebas (2010; Nocturna, 2011) y La cura mortal (2011; Nocturna, 2013). Su más reciente novela, The Kill Order (2012), es una precuela de la trilogía. Los derechos cinematográficos de El corredor del laberinto los ha comprado la 20th Century Fox.
