Haruki Murakami (Kioto, Xapón, 1949), despois de realizar estudos universitarios, traballou durante oito anos como encargado dun bar de jazz en Toquio. Ao iniciar a súa carreira como novelista, marchou a vivir a Italia, Grecia e os EUA, onde foi profesor de literatura xaponesa na Universidade de Princeton. En 1995 volveu ao Xapón e actualmente vive en Toquio. É tradutor de Scott Fitzgerald, John Irving e Raymond Carver. Segundo el mesmo conta, a idea de escribir a súa primeira novela ocorréuselle mentres vía un partido de béisbol, deporte moi popular no Xapón. Escoita a voz do vento (1979) sería tamén a primeira novela da \"Triloxía do rato\". Entre as súas novelas máis coñecidas cómpre citar Norwegian Wood (1987) ou Kafka na beiramar (2002).





As súas obras están traducidas a máis de trinta idiomas e por elas recibiu recibiu prestixiosos premios como o Noma, o Tanizaki, o Yomiuri e o Franz Kafka e, en Galicia, o Arcebispo San Clemente, concedido por estudantes galegos.





Obtivo o Premi Internacional de Catalunya 2011 outorgado pola Generalitat \"por convertir a súa obra nun referente destacado do panorama literario mundial e construír unha ponte entre Oriente e Occidente\".
