Jamil Ahmad es un escritor paquistaní. Nació en 1933 en Jalandhar, Punjab, en una India que aún no había sufrido la división de sus territorios por la independencia. Estudió Derecho e Historia. Fue diplomático en la embajada de Pakistán en Kabul antes y durante la invasión soviética de Afganistán. Durante muchos años estuvo destinado como alto funcionario y delegado del gobierno en los territorios de la frontera con Afganistán, donde convivió y se impregnó de la cultura y costumbres de las tribus que habitan estos territorios. Su último cargo fue el de primer secretario del gobierno en Baluchistán. Vive retirado en Islamabad con su mujer, Helga Ahmad, una conocida activista ecológica y trabajadora social que recibió la Medalla de Oro Fatima Jinnah en 2007.
