C. W. Gortner posee un máster en Bellas Artes sobre Escritura especializado en Estudios Históricos por la Universidad Nueva de California y ha sido profesor de universidad sobre el siglo XVI. Viaja por todo el mundo para investigar y documentarse para sus libros; ha experimentado la vida medieval en un castillo español y bailado la gallarda en el gran salón de Hampton Court. También se ha enterrado en los archivos de toda Europa y ha intentado ver y tocar (o, al menos, admirar) todas y cada una de las antigüedades que ha encontrado de este periodo. Es el autor de La última reina: la historia de Juana la Loca y El secreto de los Tudor. Sus novelas cuentan con los elogios internacionales y han sido traducidas a catorce lenguas hasta la fecha.
