John Ruskin overturned Victorian society's ideas about art and architecture, arguing that ancient buildings must be conserved for their deep, mystical links with the past and that creative design is essential - not for financial gain, but to communicate eternal human truths.
John Ruskin (1819/1900) fue un escritor, crítico de arte, sociólogo, artista y reformador social británico, uno de los grandes maestros victorianos. Escribió más de 250 obras, abarcando muchos intereses: en el año 1841 escribió el cuento infantil The King of the Golden River (El rey del Río Dorado); Las siete lámparas de la Arquitectura (1849), Unto this last (1860-1962), obra que influenció a M. Gandhi; Praeterita (1885-1889), su biografía inacabada.
