Michael Cunningham (Cincinnati, 1952) es va llicenciar en Literatura Anglesa per la Universitat de Stanford. El 1990 es va donar a conèixer amb A home at the end of the World i cinc anys més tard va publicar Flesh and Blood. Amb la novel·la Les hores, el 1999 va rebre els premis Pulitzer i Pen/Faulkner, i la distinció de Millor Llibre de l'Any segons la revista Publishers Weekly i els diaris The New York Times i Los Angeles Times. Esdevinguda tot un best-seller mundial, Les hores va comptar amb una popular adaptació al cinema. El 2005 va publicar Dies memorables. Actualment viu a Nova York i és col·laborador habitual de revistes com The New Yorker i The Paris Review. Tota l'obra en català de Michael Cunningham ha estat publicada per Edicions 62.
