(Boston, 1945) es poeta, ensayista, traductor y crítico cultural, especializado en la naturaleza de la imaginación, la creatividad y la propiedad. Es autor de ensayos como Trickster Makes This World (1998), Common as Air: Revolution, Art and Ownership (2010) y Breviario del olvido (Siruela, 2020). A lo largo de su carrera ha recibido el reconocimiento del Fondo Nacional de las Artes y del Fondo Nacional para las Humanidades de los Estados Unidos, así como el de las fundaciones MacArthur, Lannan y Guggenheim. Durante años fue profesor de Literatura en Kenyon College y director del programa de Creación Literaria de la Universidad de Harvard.
