Edward O. Wilson (Birmingham, Alabama, 1929) va estudiar biologia a la universitat d'Alabama i posteriorment es va doctorar per la Universitat de Harvard, on ha estat professor durant cinc dècades. Investigador, teòric, naturalista, Edward O. Wilson és un biòleg amb imaginació que toca de peus a terra. Considerat per la comunitat científica mundial com el màxim expert en formigues, Wilson també ha destacat per les seves aportacions teòriques, encaminades sempre a relacionar les bases biològiques amb les conductes socials. Ha fet contribucions de referència en el camp de la biologia, amb títols com On Human Nature (1979) o Ants (1991), que han obtingut el premi Pulitzer. Amb La creació Edward O. Wilson ha rebut el premi TED 2007, otorgat anualment a aquells que han contribuït a millorar la vida en el nostre planeta. Recentment ha estat distingit també amb el Premi Internacional Catalunya 2007.
