Rachel Kushner nació en Eugene (Oregón) en 1968. Graduada en Berkeley, obtuvo un máster en Escritura Creativa en la Universidad de Columbia de Nueva York, donde residió durante ocho años y trabajó de editora en las revistas Grand Street y BOMB. Sus ensayos y relatos han aparecido en revistas como The Believer, Artforum o The New York Times Book Review. Actualmente vive en Los Ángeles, donde edita la revista Soft Targets y trabaja en una nueva obra. En 2008 publicó Télex desde Cuba, su primera y aclamada novela.
