Edward James (Ted) Hughes (Mytholmroyd, 1930 ? Londres, 1998), está considerado uno de los poetas británicos más importantes del siglo XX. Su primer libro de poemas, The Hawk in the Rain, obtuvo el prestigioso galardón The Poetry Center\'s First Publication Book en el año 1957 (con un jurado formado por W. H. Auden, Marianne Moore y Stephen Spender). Luego vendrían otros poemarios igual de alabados como Lupercal (1960), Wodwo (1967), Crow (1971), Cave Birds (1975), Remains of Elmet (1979), Moortown (1980), River (1983), Wolfwatching (1990), New Selected Poems (1994) o Birthday Letters (1998), un auténtico best seller que salió a la venta poco antes de su fallecimiento y en el que dio cuenta de su relación con la escritora Sylvia Plath, su primera mujer.
