Nadeem Aslam nació en 1966 en Pakistán. Emigró a Inglaterra con catorce años, cuando su padre escapó del régimen del presidente Zia. Es autor de una novela anterior, Season of the Rainbirds (1993), Premio Betty Trask y Author¿s Club a la mejor primera novela, y finalista de los premios Whitbread a la Mejor Primera Novela y Memorial John Llewelyn Rhys del Mail on Sunday. Nadeem Aslam dedicó más de once años a escribir Mapas para amantes perdidos, que fue seleccionada para el Premio Booker 2004.
