Marco Aurelio (Roma, 121 - Viena, 181) fue un reconocido y popular emperador y filósofo de Roma conocido como el «sabio» gracias a su gran formación cultural y filosófica, por ser un seguidor del estoicismo y por haber escrito una serie de reflexiones y pensamientos fundamentales en el pensamiento clásico. Reconocido principalmente por la manera en la que gobernó a su pueblo, fue visto como uno de los representantes más importantes de la filosofía estoica y fue el último césar que tuvo la «Pax Romana», una de las épocas más prósperas del Imperio.
