Percival Everett es un escritor satírico y profesor universitario, poeta y fingidor, artífice de unos cuantos relatos, un libro ilustrado para niños, algún poemario y más de quince novelas que revientan el género y lo convierten en autor «degenerado», Percival Everett nació en 1956 en Georgia (EE.UU.) y creció en Columbia, donde su padre tenía una consulta dental. Licenciado en filosofía por la Universidad de Miami, donde leyó con provecho a Wittgenstein, cursó luego un máster de escritura creativa en la Universidad de Brown. En 1983 publicó Suder, su primera novela. Duerme poco y, tal vez por ello, desde entonces ha seguido escribiendo un volumen cada año y medio sin abandonar la enseñanza. Actualmente dirige, además, el prestigioso Departamento de Estudios Literarios de la Southern California University. Aun así, no parece profeta en su tierra, quizá porque su obra, que podría calificarse de moderna y postmoderna al mismo tiempo, le devuelve a esa tierra una imagen rota.  Actualmente vive en Los Ángeles.
