Junot Díaz (Santo Domingo, 1968) és autor de Drown i de The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, amb la qual va guanyar el National Book Critics Circle Award i el Pulitzer Prize de literatura de l'any 2007. Ha rebut també els premis PEN/ Malamud i el Dayton Literary Peace. Junot Díaz és professor d'escriptura creativa a la Universitat de Siracusa i a l'Institut Tecnològic de Massachusetts i fa poc ha obtingut una beca MacArthur. La seva narrativa ha estat descrita com l'obra d'un gran talent «amb l'ull desapassionat d'un periodista i la llengua d'un poeta» (Newsweek). I és així com la perds és la seva obra més recent.
