Jean Plaidy nació en 1906 en Londres, Reino Unido. Seudónimo de Eleanor Alice Burford Hibbert; prolífica escritora, escribió más de doscientos libros, de los que se han vendido más de cien millones de ejemplares, es muy conocida por sus novelas históricas, góticas e histórico románticas, en las que los protagonistas son siempre mujeres. Utilizaba un seudónimo distinto para cada tipo de novela.
