Sally Nicholls nació en Stockton-on-Tees (Inglaterra) en 1983. Al terminar la educación secundaria se dedicó a viajar por el mundo y pasó una temporada trabajando con la Cruz Roja en Japón. Luego estudió Filosofía y Literatura en la Universidad de Warwick, y completó su formación con un máster de Escritura Creativa orientado a la literatura infantil. Su primera novela, «Ways to Live Forever», ganó el Waterstone?s Children?s Book Prize en 2008 y el Bolton Children?s Book Award en 2009, e inspiró la película española «Vivir para siempre». Desde entonces, Nicholls ha publicado numerosos libros infantiles y novelas, y su obra ha sido traducida a varias lenguas.
