Quentin Blake nació en 1932 en Sidcup, Kent. Cursó estudios de Inglés en la Universidad de Cambrigde y de arte en la Chelsea Art School. Trabajó como profesor y fue colaborador de un gran número de revistas. A partir de 1960, Blake pasa a ser uno de los autores e ilustradores de literatura infantil y juvenil más conocidos. Desde entonces ha trabajado en más de 250 libros para 80 diferentes escritores. Entre los más notables: John Yeoman, Russell Hoban, Joan Aiken, Michael Rosen y el más famoso, Roald Dahl. También ha realizado películas destinadas a los niños para la televisión.
