Ian McEwan va néixer el 1948, i va començar a escriure el 1970. Viu i treballa a Londres. Pel seu primer llibre, el recull de narracions First love, last rites (1975) va rebre el premi Somerset Maugham del 1976. A més d'In between the sheets (1978), que ara traduïm, ha publicat també tres novel·les: The cement garden (1979), The comfort of strangers (1981) i The child in time (1987).
