Nascut el 1959 a Marràqueix, es va traslladar a París el 1980 per continuar els seus estudis de matemàtiques, matèria que va ensenyar durant vuit anys. Després es va dedicar a l'escriptura i la pintura. Va viure a Nova York del 1994 al 1999. Algunes pintures seves formen part de la col·lecció permanent del Museu Guggenheim de Nova York. Va tornar a Marràqueix el 2002, on viu i treballa actualment. Ha escrit fins ara deu novel·les, que han estat traduïdes a una dotzena d'idiomes. Foto: ©Laurent Moulager
