Hilary Mantel (Reino Unido, 1952) estudió Derecho en Londres y trabajó brevemente en un hospital geriátrico, experiencia que reflejó más tarde en sus novelas. En 1977 se trasladó a Botswana y en 1982 a Arabia Saudí, donde está ambientada su tercera novela. Ha obtenido numerosos premios literarios por sus novelas y libros de viajes, pero su mayor éxito lo ha alcanzado con En la corte del lobo. En la actualidad está trabajando en la continuación.
