John Wyndham (1903-1969) es el nombre más conocido del escritor británico John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris, que utilizó a lo largo de su carrera literaria varias combinaciones de sus apellidos para firmar sus obras. Su primer cuento fue publicado por Wonder Stories en 1931 y hasta la segunda guerra mundial se centró en relatos de ciencia ficción para las revistas juveniles de la época. A partir de la publicación de El día de los trífidos en 1951, sus novelas reflejan el trauma causado por la guerra en la clase media británica y sus anhelos y esperanzas tras el conflicto bélico. Sus obras han sido lectura obligatoria en las escuelas británicas durante décadas y autores como Brian Aldiss y M. John Harrison han retomado y actualizado sus planteamientos.
