Felipe Fernández-Armesto nació en

Londres en 1950. Doctor en historia por la Universidad de Oxford, donde ha

desarrollado su carrera profesional, es profesor en la Universidad de Londres y

en la Tufts University de Massachusetts y ha impartido clases en Yale, Columbia

y Cambridge. Ha obtenido numerosos premios como investigador, entre ellos el de

la Sociedad Geográfica Española. De sus libros, traducidos a veintitrés

idiomas, destacan los títulos Colón

(1992), Millenium (1995), Civilizaciones (2002), Barcelona: mil años de historia (2006) o

Los conquistadores del Horizonte. Una

historia mundial de la exploración (2006). Su Historia de la comida, publicada

por Tusquets Editores, mereció el Premio Nacional de la Academia Española de

Gastronomía a la mejor obra de 2004.
