P. D. James nació en

Oxford, Inglaterra, en 1920, e hizo sus estudios en Cambridge. Debido quizás a

sus distintos cargos directivos en instituciones jurídicas, vinculadas al

Departamento de Policía de Scotland Yard, se dio a conocer en los países

anglosajones como una de las escritoras de novelas policíacas más importantes

de la posguerra. En 1971, ganó el Premio Silver Dagger de la Asociación de

Escritores de Novelas Policíacas y estuvo dos veces nominada para el Premio

Edgar Allan Poe.
