Doris Lessing (Kermanshah, Irán, 1919), a súa obra literaria ten moito de autobiografía, inspirándose na súa experiencia africana, na súa infancia, nos seus desenganos sociais e políticos. Os temas plasmados nas súas novelas céntranse nos conflitos culturais, as flagrantes inxustizas da desigualdade racial, a contradición entre a consciencia individual e o ben común. En 1962 publica a súa novela máis coñecida, O caderno dourado, que a catapultou á fama converténdoa na icona das reivindicacións feministas.





É autora dunha extensa obra narrativa e dunha celebrada autobiografía en dous volumes, Under my Skin e Walking in the Shad. Na súa obra máis recente, Alfred and Emily, conta a historia da súa nai e de seu pai combinando dous puntos de vista opostos: o real e o ficticio.





En 2007 recibiu o Premio Nobel de Literatura pola súa «capacidade para transmitir a épica da experiencia feminina e narrar a división da civilización con escepticismo, paixón e forza visionaria».
